Crew Takes Silver at Textile River Regatta

Simmons Crew opened the fall head racing season on Sunday with a second-place finish in the Women’s Club 8+ at the Textile River Regatta. The race, held in Lowell, Mass., celebrated its 30th anniversary with a record 510 entries and a shortened course due to low water levels in the Merrimack River.
The Simmons “A” lineup of Amanda Milad (cox), Amanda Taylor (8), Becca Brown (7), Caitlin Urciuoli (6), Kelli Flanagan (5), Julia Burns (4), Jordan Nelson (3), Amanda DeRosa (2) and Melissa DeRosa (1) were edged out of first place by 1.5 seconds by University of Vermont. The “B” lineup of Jess Dowler (cox), Diane McKiernan (8), Julianne Davis (7), Stephanie Rubinstein (6), Anna Herbert (5), Lauren Johnson (4), Beth Olney (3), Jill Romano (2) and Alisa Espinal (1) finished in ninth place, out of a field of 15 boats.
The Sharks raced two fours later in the day, which finished fifth and tenth, respectively, out of a field of 22. The lineup of Nicole Gallant (cox), Taylor (4), Brown (3), Urciuoli (2) and Flanagan (1) placed fifth with a time of 17:52.2, while the lineup of Milad (cox), Emily Hagens (4), Moira Quinn (3), Caitlin Britton (2) and Molly Bohannon (1) finished in tenth place with a time of 18:22.5.
Half of the Simmons novice made their collegiate debut on Sunday, racing well to a fourth place finish. The crew of Tarra Marino (cox), Cindy Reynolds (8), Anna Rowse (7), Kelsi Rock (6), Erin Mannion (5), Audrey Purcell (4), Amber Hall (3), Katie Viscarra (2) and Micayla Boari (1) crossed the line in 18:34.2.
