Simmons Crew wrapped up the 2009 spring season with a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/USRowing 11th
place ranking among NCAA Division III women’s varsity eights. This is the highest ranking Simmons has
achieved in the 31-year history of the crew program.
"The team performed very well this year," said Head Coach Nikolay Kurmakov. "It was a nice end to the season that the team received recognition with this ranking. The team has raised the bar all year and trained well. We are looking forward with optimism for the next year, and hope that team will be motivated to stay in shape over summer break."
The Sharks traveled to the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J. over the weekend to compete in the ECAC National Invitational Regatta with a squad of three eights. In the Sunday morning heats, the Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight both made the Petite Finals, and the Novice Eight made the Grand Final with the fastest novice heat time of the day.
All afternoon finals were cancelled due to high winds and unsafe rowing conditions on the course.
