Facilities & Directions

Athletic activity at Simmons centers around the William J. Holmes Sports and Fitness Center, a $10 million, 60,000 square foot facility located just steps from Simmons' nine residence halls and Bartol Dining Hall. Opened in 1989, the Center houses state-of-the-art training equipment, plus hardwood courts, an indoor running area, swimming pool, and much more. In 1992, the Holmes Sports Center received the Athletic Business Architectural Award.

Simmons athletes and students also enjoy easy access to fine outdoor sports resources, including the Charles River, which is shared by many of Boston's colleges and universities for rowing and sailing. Six tennis courts and a lighted field for soccer and field hockey are adjacent to the campus.

Think about this

At Simmons, women athletes are the top — and only — priority in the varsity sports program. Unlike coeducational institutions where women's teams often take a back seat to men's programs, Simmons gives its "Sharks" the best practice times, outstanding equipment and facilities, funding, and the undivided support of nearly 1,300 students who cheer on the athletes and encourage them to succeed in a spirited environment.
