Fundamental Instruction
Through structured opportunities for exploration and introductory drills, campers will learn the basic skills and rules necessary to play organized games in basketball, soccer and volleyball. The focus will be on individual technique with a broad overview of tactics.
Swim Lessons
Daily youth swim lessons with appropriate student-to-instructor ratio. Campers will be tested and placed in groups based on ability levels 1-6. These levels accommodate swimmers with zero experience all the way up to competitive swimmers.
Arts & Crafts
Staff will encourage creativity and self-expression through various projects that may include using materials such as glitter, paint, pipe cleaners, feathers, stickers, etc. Opportunities may include drawing, clay sculpting, origami and much more.
Group Games
Campers will be exposed to numerous indoor and outdoor games that will require following directions, working as a team and basic physical movements. Some of our popular camp games include: Doctor Spy, Four Square, Kickball, Wiffleball, Train Wreck and many more.
Icebreakers & Team-building
Campers and staff will get to know one another during icebreaker games. Staff will design team-building exercises to encourage the group to work together, problem solve and gain self-esteem and confidence.
Fitness Activities
Through relay races, agility ladders, and obstacle courses, our staff will provide fun and innovative ways for campers to improve gross motor skills. Staff will promote the benefits of leading an active, healthy lifestyle.
Trivia
In small groups, campers will test their knowledge on age-appropriate topics. Campers might be asked to come up with questions/topics to try and stump the staff!
The Leadership Connection
At Simmons we believe in the importance of leadership and student development. We also believe sports play an important role in students’ lives as well as in teaching leadership skills. Participation in sports develops the abilities to work within teams, meet goals, manage setbacks, accept feedback and be flexible. Through sports activities, students practice the skills of leadership first hand.
At the Simmons Swim, Sports & Activity School, we are committed to weaving sports and leadership together. Our goal is to teach you how to transfer leadership skills from the playing field into life!
