Application Requirements

Candidates must have a Master’s degree or higher in Behavioral Education, Applied Behavior Analysis or a related field, including psychology, education, or special education, and must be a Board Certified Behavior Analyst™. 

Application checklist:

  • A completed online application or paper application form
  • A current résumé that discusses employment and volunteer experiences
  • Statement of purpose that addresses the following: Please state your reasons for pursuing this degree, including what professional goals you hope to achieve after earning the degree. Discuss your specific research interests as well as publication and presentation goals. Finally, comment on your ability to succeed in a rigorous doctoral program
  • Analytical writing sample (thesis chapter, presentation, literature review, etc. Not to exceed 10 pages)
  • Evidence of a passing score on the Board Certified Behavior Analyst Exam™ (BCBA)
  • Three letters of recommendation- two of the three letters of recommendation must be from an academic source
  • Official Transcripts from every college and university attended since the completion of high school, including official transcripts from all study-abroad experiences.
  • Official GRE scores
  • A non-refundable application fee of $80 (payable to Simmons College)
  • Interview

For International Students

Simmons welcomes applications from international students. Students for whom English is not their first language are required to submit a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score that demonstrates satisfactory proficiency. Simmons must receive test scores directly from ETS.

International students also must submit a Certificate of Finances Form that demonstrates proof of ability to pay tuition and living expenses while enrolled at Simmons. The College cannot issue an I-20 visa until the required financial statements have been received. I-20 visas are generated only after formal acceptance and a deposit is submitted for the program.

Officially translated and evaluated transcripts are required for transcripts not originally written in English. Only transcripts translated and evaluated by authorized organizations are accepted. The preferred provider of transcript evaluations at Simmons is listed below.
