Semester Abroad

Study abroad for a year, semester or summer

Simmons students participate in a wide variety of programs in countries all over the globe, including Argentina, Australia, Chile, China, France, Ghana, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Mexico, Poland, Senegal, Spain, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. During this past year ('07-'08), 65 Simmons students studied abroad for the summer, semester and full year in countries they had selected with the help of the Simmons Education Abroad staff.

How to get started:

  1. Think about what your goals are for studying abroad. What do you hope to gain? Which program, location and time in your university career would best suit you? Do you want to take classes towards your major/minor or do you want to pursue subjects not available at Simmons?
  2. Research programs in the country and subject of your choice. The Education Abroad Office has brochures from programs in countries all over the world for you to browse.  Also the internet is a great way to research programs. A good place to start your search is at http://www.iiepassport.org/.
  3. Plan ahead by talking with your academic adviser. It is possible for every student to study abroad if she plans early.
  4. Take language courses if you wish to study in a non-English speaking country.
  5. Check with the Student Financial Services to see how your financial aid package might be affected.
  6. Come to the Education Abroad Office in MCB, Room E-110 to get more information about your options and how to choose a program or to make an appointment with Hilary Wilson, the Education Abroad Program Manager.
