Professor Bourgois, a native of France, holds a double background in Classics (Maîtrise ès Lettres Classiques, Université de Rennes) and  French & Italian (Ph.D., University of Massachusetts at Amherst). He has taught various levels of French, Italian, Spanish, Latin, and  Esperanto in different institutions (Boston University, Emmanuel  College, Elms College and U-Mass). His main areas of interest are  Marguerite Yourcenar (the first woman to have been elected to the Académie française) as well as Francophone literatures from Europe (Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Romania). Lylian is currently  the coordinator for Italian at Simmons College.
