Prepare for the future....
The Information Technology major
is an interdisciplinary major that combines courses in information
technology, computer science, management, communications, and philosophy.
It prepares students for a broad range of careers such as web content
provider/manager, web developer, web administrator, IT consultant,
network support, customer/desktop support, sytem integrator, system
analyst and application developer.
Information technologists require specialized
knowledge of computer network systems, database development, and
web design. They work closely with all departments within a business
or organization to determine users needs and to facilitate
meeting those needs. They communicate in writing and in formal business
presentations. They also manage and implement change.
The goal of the Information Technology major is
to provide students with a strong technical foundation in information
technology and computer science and to cultivate the interpersonal
skills of teamwork, communication, and ethical decision-making.
The major also aims to strengthen students ability to analyze
problems logically and to design complex systems to solve those
problems. Because of the rapidly changing nature of technology,
information technologists have to upgrade their skills continuously.
The major is designed to help students learn how to learn and how
to read and communicate technical material.
