Technology:
What most communication students refer to as their "second home" is our communications
lab, also known as a state-of-the-art technology lab. The lab is equipped with 26 iMac G5
computers.
We put all this technology to good use in our varied, dynamic courses. If you decide to try
out Professor Bob White's (pictured above) animation class, you will learn the basics of Poser
and Lightwave. There's also the choice of Professor Judith Aronson's graphic design classes which
use QuarkXPress, Photoshop and Illustrator. The lab houses scanners and printers that aid in
presentations and class work.
Macromedia Director is used for our Cyberspace class to combine interactive multimedia
elements: images, sound, animation and movies. Learning about Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe
Photoshop & ImageReady and HTML are part of Professor Shaun Gummere's Design for the World
Wide Web class.
The Communications Lab is part of Simmons' innovative
Media
Retrieval System.
Our Ongoing Commitment:
We are committed to the effective use of technology in our curriculum and have created an
instructor/technology specialist position to ensure that we use current technology to enhance
our students' and professors' professional capabilities and expertise.
Briana Martino, manager of multimedia classrooms and labs, teaches, develops and implements
the department's technology, and actively contributes to our vision for technology in the
curriculum.
