Simmons College is proud to have faculty with diverse educational and creative backgrounds facilitate the Studio 5 course. Studio 5 evolved from the integration of classroom and community, which has long been central to the college's communications program.

Sarah Burrows received her Master's in Communications Management from Simmons College and her Bachelor of Fine Arts from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. Throughout her career Sarah has worked at WGBH TV, Continental Cablevision, Cable Advertising Inc., AIDS Action Committee, and Home-Work Exchange. Sarah currently directs the Internship Program for the Communications Department at Simmons and acts as the academic advisor for numerous undergraduates.

An Assistant Professor in the Communications Department, Ellen Grabiner has developed courses in Visual Communications, Design for the World Wide Web, Digital Imaging and a course for elementary teachers emphasizing the use of technology in the classroom. A fine artist by training, her work can be found in collections nationally, including New England Deaconess Hospital, Fidelity Investments, and Meditech, Inc., to name a few. Ellen recently completed her doctorate. Her interdisciplinary dissertation, "Making Thought Visible: The Practice of the Artist/Philosopher," looks at the interstice between art and philosophy and re-examines the thinking surrounding the value of the visual.
