Tri-Beta Honor Society

The Beta Beta Beta (Tri-beta) National Biological Honor Society is "dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extending boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research." The Simmons Chapter, named Nu Omicron, was installed on February 29, 2008. Jane Lopilato, Ph.D. was installed as the Tri-Beta Adviser. Twenty-eight Simmons students were inducted into the Society, distinguishing each as one who as achieved high scholarship in Biology. The requirements for membership are;

  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Biology course GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Minimum of three semesters of biology
  • Demonstrated interest in the biological sciences

Members may publish in the Tri-Beta journal Bios; attend the annual Tri-Beta conference; and apply for undergraduate research funding.

Simmons' Nu Omicron chapter will be inducting new members in the Fall, 2008. The deadline for the application is Monday, September 29, 2008.

To apply, send a letter to Dr. Jane Lopilato and include the following:

  • Your name, email address, mailing address, and phone number
  • A copy of your transcript from AARC (see GPA requirements above)
  • A paragraph describing work you've done related to biology that demonstrates your interest in biology (tutoring, research, internship, liaison, etc)
Return the letter to Dr. Lopilato in the Biology Department, Office S254 on or before September 25, 2008.
