SIT Senegal: Global Security and Religious Pluralism

SIT Senegal

The program is based in Senegal's capital and largest city, Dakar, located on the Atlantic Coast.

Host Institution: The School for International Training (SIT) is an accredited degree-granting institution registered in Senegal to administer this program. The SIT Senegal: Global Security and Religious Pluralism program is based in the coastal city of Dakar; travel to Joal-Fadiouth Island, Ouakam, Yoff, Tivaouane, and Touba to examine Senegalese Islamic practice in the context of Senegal's traditional secular republicanism. This program also travels to Morocco for a comparative excursion. Students will examine the religious and political relations between Morocco's and Senegal's Sufi orders, and how their histories shaped the relations between religion and politics.

The program will be mostly taught in English and partly in French. You will also receive training in the Wolof language. You will choose between an Independent Study Project or a community-based Internship for the experiential capstone component of the semester.

Majors*: Ideal for students in Humanities, Social Sciences, and Liberal Arts with an interest in topics related to politics, history, economics, and sociology.

Housing*: Students reside in homestay accommodation with local families.

Requirements: Minimum 3.0 GPA.
