SIT Rwanda: Post-Genocide Restoration and Peacebuilding

Study in Kigali, Rwanda: the capital city and the largest economic, cultural, and political center of modern Rwanda!

Host Institution: The SIT Rwanda Post-Genocide Restoration and Peacebuilding program is based in Kigali, Rwanda in East Africa. As part of this program, Simmons students will examine the 1994 genocide in Rwanda and that country’s efforts to foster peace, unity, and reconciliation. In addition, students will also travel to northern Uganda to experience everyday life in this post-conflict region, and learn how collective strategies of remembrance are being used to counteract genocide denial.

Although courses are taught in English, you will receive basic training in Kinyarwanda, the local language in addition to coursework focusing on the topic at hand.

Majors*: Ideal for students in Humanities, Business and Liberal Arts with a strong academic background and interest in peacebuilding/development work.

Housing*: Students reside in homestay accommodation.

Requirements: Minimum 3.0 GPA.
