"If I had to choose an organelle which one would I be?"
If I had to choose an organelle, I would choose the mitochondria. The reason why is because a mitochondria has it's own DNA and it can grow and reproduce itself independently. It also supplies energy for chemical reactions. Powerhouse is another name for the mitochondria. These are the reasons why I choose this organelle. --Jamil

I would be the mitochondria. My reason for this is because I would be independent. I would make my DNA and be the respiratory center of the cell. Another reason I would be the mitochondria is because I would be the powerhouse. I'd be the place where all the energy is supplied. I would also be able to divide and make more mitochondria. That is why I would be this particular organelle. --Jaslin

Multi-Cultural Essay
Danny was born in Boston. He is a student in the John D. O'Bryant and is going to be a freshman in high-school. Danny's father is from South America and his mother is from Europe. His religion is Catholic. His favorite sports are hockey and soccer. his favorite food is mostly all types. His favorte color is blue.

Something Danny would like to change is racism because he believes that it's wrong and immoral. It puts people down and stereotypes people. Danny hasn't really experienced racism, but it really makes him mad seeing people getting disrespected all the time. Racism puts people down and does not encourage them. He doesn't like it and thinks that it is unfair.--Stephanie

Persuassive Essay
What I am going to talk about is alcolholism. Alcoholism is very dangerous because people don't know what they are doing. Well some people think they know what htey are doing, but some don't. For example, when Manny's father came home drunk and read the note his wife left for him, he thoght his wife was going to leave him, but he was under the influence. So, he ewnt to get his gun, and tried to shoot his wife. That's one way alcoholism is dangerous.

Another example is when Manny's father is under the influence he usually goes to the bar and stays there for a very long time. Then Manny's mother had to come to pick him up, which Manny's mother hated to do. That is the second example that I know of.--Andre

Life As A Yellow Helium Balloon
As I lasy in a basket among many others like myself, I feel unwanted. There are so many beautiful colors around me. I am just plain old yellow. All of the little boys want blue or green and all of the little girls want red or pink, but nobody wants me.

I lay here just invisioning the day when I finally get chosen from among all of the other colors. I can feel the helium filling my body. As my stomach inflates, I begin to rise. I rise, rise, rise, until suddenly I am jerked to a hault by a string tied tight around my neck. I knew this was too good to be true. Who would ruin this for me? It was no one else but my worst enemy holding my life on a string.

It was a little boy with bright carrot hair and a freckled face. He smiled widely showing small black teeth that reminded me of chewed licorice. He seemed to be excited about having me, but I knew in my heart that there was only mischievous thoughts on his mind. I knew what he had in store for me. I could just feel him dragging me wildly through the air with furious winds beating against my fragile body. I felt the braches of trees skim slightly across my stomach just enough to miss punctring my skin leading me once again to live an air-less life. I feared for my life. As much as I wanted to be free from the basket of "superior" colors, I did not want to lose my life. I did not want to loese my life for the want to be free.

By some chance, I felt myself once again rising slowly into the air. It seems that little licorice toothed carrot top had just enjoyed a vanilla cone, which left him with some sweet residue on his hand. This residue is what saved my preious life.

As I now roam freely in the sky. i felt wonderful. I was brushed by the feathers of birds and kissed by the clouds. The people below me looked like an army of ants preparing for battle. The tree tops looked like broccoli stalks dancing in the wind. The tents from the country fair reminded me of a candy cane, and I'm glad to be free.--Anika

What does it mean to be an American?
In today's society to be an American is to be naturally born anywhere in the United States. How can you call yourself an American when there is nothing to define this terminology. No one is an American because they all have descended from someone who was brought to or immigrated to America. To be an American you have more freedom than other countries, because we have constitutions that protect us and others as individuals.

People in America don't take advantage of the resources we have, but when immigrants immigrated to America they see all the things their countriesneed and how many advantages we have. If you have noticed Americans are greedy, greedy for money, and that's why most immigrants are more successful than Americans because they use our advantages. --Kehinda

A Poem: UB English
Who has the best English class?

That never wants to fail and always wants to pass
Who, has those English classes?
With good learning experiences so that everyone passes.
Where is that English class my dear?
Come to U.B. Baby we have it right here.
So the next time you drop by during the week,
Stop on by and take a peak
at Lix and Rene's English class
you'll be glad you stopped, you'll have a blast!
--Tanisha

Why I want to go to college
I want to go to college so I can have a better future. I do not want to end up on Welfare or in the low class. College is like a gate that opens to opportunities. These opportunities will determine our status. Going to college is my dream and my parents' dreams.

I am going to build up skills that will prepare me once I leave college, heading towards society. These skills will last for a lifetime and it is only if you want to receive it. There are som many things to say about my future plans.--Andrew

The Cell
If I were an organelle I would be a cilia... Everything that the cilia does is to help the cell out. That's exactly what I would like to do if I were an organelle.

If I could be an organelle I would be the nucleus of the cell. I would want ot be the nucleus because it is the control center of the cell. Being the nucleus relates back to leadership. That is where I would like to stand.
