Summer 2017 Institute:
(im)possible dreams

“There may be no city in the clouds, but dreaming of it can enliven the spirit.”
― Gregory Maguire
Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West

We dream to imagine a world better than our own. We dream a future that reaches beyond the present that binds us. We dream a transcendent tomorrow of equality, of justice, and of peace. (im)possible dreams enliven our spirit as they conceive of cities in the clouds, send their heroes in search of truth, and dare to transform us.

(im)possible dreams radiate with promise and tremble with trepidation at the magnitude of the work we need to do. They challenge and they disappoint. They bring joy and touch defeat. They return us to a past of known possibilities and they rouse us to invent the unknown.

Institute speakers will consider the (im)possible dreams that infuse their works from picturebooks to young adult novels, in informational books and narrative poetry, and throughout innovative forms for young readers.
