The Healthy Worcester Project: An Inderdisciplinary Collaboration

This project is supported by the President’s Fund for Faculty Excellence.

Lisa Brown Research The researchers for this project will perform a needs assessment to determine the underlying causes of child obesity in the city of Worcester, Massachusetts. This assessment has three major components: 1) a literature and internet review to identify potential model programs; 2) a comprehensive environmental scan to identify opportunities and barriers within the city; and 3) an inventory and in-depth survey of the agencies and key stakeholders who are potential partners and supporters of future interventions. (The Healthy Worcester Project is a collaboration between the Simmons departments of nutrition, nursing, exercise science and public health and the Worcester Early Childhood Obesity Prevention/Reduction Committee.)
