Graduate Student Requirements

**Note: These guidelines do not apply to graduate students enrolled in the Nursing, Social Work, or MBA/HCMBA online programs. These guidelines do apply to students in the SLIS online programs.**

Graduate students must complete all degree requirements as determined by their program department and as listed in the Course Catalog for the year they began at Simmons. Once you have completed the program requirements, you are eligible to graduate.

Additionally, whether or not they intend to attend Commencement, all graduate students seeking to graduate must complete a Petition to Graduate form and submit it to their department by the deadlines below in order to receive their degrees by the following dates:

Conferral Date Due Date
January 2016 Petition due by November 1, 2015
May 2016 Petition due by November 1, 2015
August 2016 Petition due by April 1, 2016
October 2016 Petition due by April 1, 2016

Graduate students should complete the Petition to Graduate form specific to their school or department:

Simmons has one commencement ceremony a year, on the third Friday in May. In addition to students graduating in May, graduate students whose degrees are conferred in August, October, or January are eligible to attend the Simmons Commencement Ceremony the following May without additional paperwork required.

Students who will not complete their degree requirements until August or October after Commencement but who still wish to attend before their degree is conferred may fill out a Petition to Participate in Commencement form with their program director's signature and submit it, along with a completed Petition to Graduate form, to the Registrar's Office in C-116 (or through registrar@simmons.edu) by March 1.
