» Simmons College Named "A Best Place to Work" in Massachusetts

BOSTON (May 11, 2005) Simmons College in Boston has been named one of the "Best Places to Work" in Massachusetts—the only college or university to make the list. The award recognizes an organization's achievements in creating a positive work environment that attracts and retains employees through a combination of employee satisfaction, working conditions, and company culture.

Simmons was named in the top 20 "best places to work" in a 2005 survey by the Boston Business Journal in the large companies category, consisting of organizations with more than 500 employees. The awards were based on an outside firm's independent analysis of confidential employee responses to a survey on a wide range of workplace issues, including management effectiveness, trust in senior leaders and coworkers, feeling valued, retention rates, and employee benefits.

Simmons competed against more than 240 organizations, which included small, medium, and large companies. Simmons was the only institution of higher education to earn the distinction, on any of the lists. To qualify for the award, at least one third of an organization's employees were required to respond to the survey.

"The good work of every Simmons employee contributed to our winning this prestigious award, " said Simmons College President Daniel S. Cheever, Jr. "I'm proud of the entire Simmons community for being recognized as a model of work place excellence."

The Boston Business Journal is a regional newspaper devoted to covering business news in Greater Boston. For more information about the award, visit http://events.bizjournals.com/1506.
