» press releaseLeading Social Theorist to Speak March 25 at Simmons College BOSTON (March 14, 2003) - Highlighting the need for gender and race analyses in order to ensure that policy-makers account for the needs and rights of all will be the focus of a lecture Tuesday, March 25 at 6 p.m. in the Simmons College third floor conference center, 300 The Fenway. The lecture is free and open to the public. Gwendolyn Mink, professor of women's studies at Smith College, will speak on "Feminism and Social Justice." Recognized for her work on race, class, and gender dynamics of law, social policy, and social movements, Mink will discuss welfare-policy and politics to help guard against punitive welfare reform. Mink received her Ph.D. in government at Cornell University and B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley. Author of five books and editor of two, Mink is also the author of numerous journal articles. Her works include Welfare's End, Hostile Environment: The Political Betrayal of Sexually Harassed Women, and The Wages of Motherhood: Inequality in the Welfare State. Mink is the second of three speakers in the Simmons College Lowell Lecture Series, "Gender and Public Policy: Questions for the Twenty First Century."
