Chicanas’ Struggle Comes to the Light February 20 at Simmons College
Author to Speak on the Overlooked Perspectives of Chicanas

BOSTON (Jan. 31, 2002) - The author of a book showcasing the previously unheard voices of Chicana women will speak Thursday, Feb. 20 at 7:00pm in the third floor conference center at Simmons College, 300 The Fenway. The event is free and open to the public.

Aida Hurtado, professor of psychology at the University of California, Santa Cruz, will speak on her book, "Voicing Chicana Feminisms: Young Women Speak Out on Sexuality and Identity." The book explores the special struggle of the modern day Chicana, an experience that has been missing from the psychology of women and long ignored.

The event is co-sponsored by the Center for Gender in Organizations, the Simmons Institute for Leadership and Change, Simmons's Women's Studies Department, the Graduate Program in Gender and Cultural Studies, and the Center for New Words.
