» press release"Crucible of Terror" Author Presents New Book on Militant Islam November 12 at Simmons College BOSTON (Nov. 10, 2003) -- Zachary Abuza, associate professor of political science at Simmons College, will discuss his timely book, Militant Islam in Southeast Asia: Crucible of Terror , Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 5 p.m. in the Simmons College third floor conference center, 300 The Fenway. The event is free and open to the public. Abuza, who is head of Simmons's East Asian Studies program, has done extensive on-the-ground research on the growing al Qaeda network. He is frequently interviewed by national and international media including NBC Network News, PBS's "New Hour with Jim Lehrer," NPR/BBC's "The World," CNN, the New York Times , Washington Post , Wall Street Journal , Christian Science Monitor , Newsweek , and Time magazine. As research for his book, he interviewed terrorist experts and suspected terrorists in Indonesia. He also was an invited speaker at a Department of Defense conference in Hawaii on the spread of terrorism. The event is co-sponsored by the Simmons Department of Political Science and International Relations and the Fall 2003 Warburg Lecture Series. Signed books will be available for purchase. |
