Leadership in Communications BOSTON, MA (October 9, 2003) - Four powerful female executives will meet at Simmons College Nov. 6 to discuss why men still dominate the leadership positions in the fields of in marketing communications and public relations, even though they are primarily female professions.. Carmen Baez, Carol Cone, Andrea Coville, and Maura Fitzgerald - some of the few women at the top of the communications profession — will speak on “Women, Power, and Leadership in Communications: The View From the Top,” Thursday, Nov. 6 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Simmons College third floor conference center, 300 The Fenway. The women will share personal stories and insights into how women can achieve positions of power and leadership. The event is sponsored by the Simmons College Master’s in Communications Management (MCM) program, the Department of Communications, and the Lowell Institute. Baez is president-Latin America, Diversified Agency Services, a division of Omnicom Group, the world’s leading marketing communications company. A 1979 graduate of Simmons, Baez has more than 20 years of experience in the marketing communications industry. Cone, CEO of Cone, Inc., has been named by PRWeek as one of the 50 most powerful women in public relations. With a strong commitment to social issues, she helps companies and nonprofit organizations integrate values and social issues into brand equity and organizational identity to gain significant impact. Cone, Inc. is acknowledged as the nation’s leading “cause branding” consultancy. Coville is CEO of Brodeur Worldwide and responsible for the company’s global brand, operations, and management team. She has worked with clients in a variety of industries, including technology, healthcare and life sciences, and consumer markets. She was co-founder of Brodeur Worldwide in the U.S. A high-tech PR veteran, Fitzgerald is CEO and founder of Fitzgerald Communications. She has been communications strategist for some of the industry’s best agencies and high-tech brands, such as IBM, Compaq, and Motorola.
