“Woman Warrior” Author Speaks on New Long-Awaited Novel Oct. 16 at Simmons College
Maxine Hong Kingston to Speak on Complex Novel on War and Peace

BOSTON, MA (October 1, 2003) - Renowned author of Chinese-American literature Maxine Hong Kingston will speak on her newest novel, The Fifth Book of Peace, Thursday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. in the third floor conference center at Simmons College, 300 The Fenway. The event is free and open to the public.

Kingston, best known for her memoir The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Childhood Among Ghosts, will speak on her new novel, which weaves the author’s own story of loss together with the stories of war veterans and a remarkable pair of Chinese-American war resisters. The stories of war and its terrors frame Kingston’s quest for peace.

The event is hosted by the Simmons Institute for Leadership and Change (SILC), and is presented by New Words Live. For more information, contact Diane Hammer at SILC, at 617-521-2480 or diane.hammer@simmons.edu.
