» press releaseHealth Care Administration Expert Named Head of Simmons Graduate Program in Health Care Administration BOSTON (August 6, 2002)— John M. Lowe, Ph.D., has been named director of the Graduate Program in Health Care Administration at Simmons College. The program, designed for mid-career health care professionals who want to enhance their careers in management or move into a senior health care management position, is part of the Simmons School for Health Studies. Lowe, well known in health care administration throughout the region, has been a professor in health care administration at the Simmons School for Health Studies since 1993. He has held a number of positions in health care administration, including vice president of hospital research and educational trust for the American Hospital Association, a senior officer in development and administration at the Temple University School of Medicine, grants officer with the Health Group of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and management coordinator at the Ohio State University Hospitals. He is author of numerous professional publications on such topics as quality management in health care, school-based health centers as a locus for community health improvement, the urban hospital market, improving hospital management and information systems, innovations in health promotion and disease prevention, and exploring the hospital of the future. Lowe has a B.S. from Duke University, an M.S. from Ohio State University, a post-graduate fellowship in Health Services Administration from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and a Ph.D. in public policy analysis at the School of Urban Planning and Policy from the University of Illinois at Chicago.The Simmons Graduate Program in Health Care Administration offers a masters degree in health care management for health care professionals that can be completed on a part-time and evening basis in two and a half to three years. Graduates are in senior level health care administration positions throughout New England, including small and major hospitals, community health centers, and major health care organizations.
