» press releaseCarol Gilligan, Renowned Psychologist and Author, Speaks June 5 at Simmons BOSTON (May 9, 2002) — Internationally acclaimed psychologist Carol Gilligan, author of the landmark book In a Different Voice, will speak Wednesday, June 5 at 7 p.m. in the third floor conference room at Simmons College, 300 The Fenway. The event is free and open to the public. Gilligan, who was named one of Time magazine’s "25 Most Influential Americans," will discuss her new book, The Birth of Pleasure, which highlights her research with boys and girls and modern couples in crisis. Gilligan’s In a Different Voice, which transformed psychology by bringing the voices of women and girls into public consciousness, has been translated into 13 languages. Gilligan is currently University Professor at New York University. She initiated the Harvard Project on Women’s Psychology and the Development of Girls.
