» press releasePoetry of Arab Women Unveiled Feb 22 at Simmons College BOSTON (Feb. 8, 2002) A treasury of poetry written by Arab women poets will be presented at Simmons College Friday, Feb. 22 at 4:00 p.m. in the Beatley Library Browsing Room, 300 The Fenway. The event is free and open to the public. Nathalie P. Handal, editor of the book, will read from The Poetry of Arab Women: A Contemporary Anthology, a collection of poems from eighty-two Arab women, including Etel Adnan, Andrée Chedid, Salma Khadra Jayyusi, Naomi Shihab Nye, and Fadwa Tuqan. The book, an Academy of American Poets Poetry Book Club bestseller, sheds light on a virtually unrecognized group of poets. Handal, a graduate of Simmons, is a researcher at the University of London and the author of a book of poetry, The Never Field, and a poetry CD, "Traveling Rooms." Her work has appeared in numerous magazines and literary journals in the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East. For more information, call 617-521-2220.
