9 at Simmons College BOSTON (Feb. 28, 2002) Think technology is just for geeks? Middle school girls will get the chance to learn how technology can help in exciting careers in the fashion industry, solving crimes, and radio shows. The second annual Girls*Get*Connected 2002 Conference will be held Saturday, March 9, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Simmons College, 300 The Fenway. The girls will take part in a variety of workshops, including: working with Artists for Humanity to learn computer animation and design the latest fashion trends; how to design their own radio shows with sound technicians; meeting computer chip designers and diagnose computer problems; and learning how to use computers in crime labs, hospitals, and in helping the environment. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino will speak at the event. The event, sponsored by Verizon, is presented by the Girls*Get*Connected Collaborative, a joint venture of Simmons College; Boston Public Schools Tech Boston and School-to-Career; Patriots Trail Girl Scouts, Inc.; Roxbury Multiservice Center, United South End Settlements; Center for Women & Enterprise; Dari Associates; Girls Coalition; muscella.com; Private Industry Council; and Womens Educational and Industrial Union.
