» press releaseAcclaimed Expert Speaks on Controversial Alternative Medicine Oct. 17 at Simmons College BOSTON (Oct. 11, 2002) – A foremost expert in alternative medicine will speak on integrating traditional and alternative methods Thursday, Oct. 17 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Simmons College third floor conference center, 300 The Fenway. The lecture is free and open to the public. David M. Eisenberg, MD, director of the Center for Alternative Medicine Research and Education at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, will speak on "Complementary and Integrative Therapies: Current Status and Future Trends." He will examine controversial alternative medicines, complementary therapies, and their prevalence, safety and cost-effectiveness as a treatment method. In addition to his work at Beth Israel, Eisenberg is the Bernard Osher Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and was recently named to head the new Harvard Medical School Division for Research and Education in Complementary and Integrative Medical Therapies. Eisenberg is one of three speakers in the Simmons College Lowell Lecture series, "Gender, Health, and Behavior: The Interplay of Risk, Choice and Social Policy," sponsored by the Society and Health Program in the Simmons Sociology Department in collaboration with the Office of Student Life, the Simmons Health Center, and the Simmons School for Health Studies.
