Unconditional Silence: Pattern and Membrane Recent Sculpture
Organic Form Sculptures Exhibit Opens April 23 at Simmons College Trustman Art Gallery

BOSTON (April 9, 2001) — Therese Zemlin will showcase her newest sculptures that focus on ideas of organic form in the exhibit "Unconditional Silence: Pattern and Membrane Recent Sculpture," April 23 to May 31 at the Simmons College Trustman Art Gallery, fourth floor Simmons Main Campus Building, 300 The Fenway. There will be a reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. April 26, which will include a gallery talk at 5 p.m.

Zemlin’s paper and motorized sculptures are based on organic forms and the artist’s explorations of pattern, natural phenomena, and culture. Combining scanned images and three-dimensional paper objects with kinetic elements, the artist creates unique forms that have been called "biomorphic bellows." Using a method of construction related to collapsible Japanese Gifu lanterns, Zemlin’s sculptures are simultaneously post-industrial and natural.

Exhibit hours are from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The gallery is wheelchair accessible. For more information, contact Christine Kromer at 617-521-2268 or visit the Trustman Art Gallery Web site.
