» press releaseChief Psychologist at Childrens Hospital Named Dean of Simmons Health Studies Graduate School BOSTON (Feb. 16, 2001) The chief psychologist at Childrens Hospital in Boston has been appointed by the Simmons College Board of Trustees as Dean of the Graduate School for Health Studies at Simmons. Dr. Gerald Koocher of Brookline, MA, will officially join Simmons College in June. In addition to his post at Childrens Hospital, Koocher is chief psychologist at Judge Baker Childrens Center and associate professor at Harvard Medical School. He heads an academic unit of more than 80 clinical faculty and graduate students and trainees, and has undergraduate teaching experience at Boston University, Boston College, Harvard University, and Simmons. Editor of the journal Ethics and Behavior, Dr. Koocher is a distinguished and prolific scholar with authorship of 68 journal articles, contributions to 48 books, and sole or contributing authorship of 10 books. He also serves as treasurer of the American Psychological Association (APA). Dr. Koocher holds a Ph.D. in clinical and developmental psychology from the University of Missouri at Columbia and a bachelors degree from Boston University. His numerous honors and awards include membership on the board of directors of the APA, as well as being named a Fellow of both the APA and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The co-educational Simmons Graduate School of Health Studies brings together the colleges highly respected bachelors and masters level health-related programs in health care administration, nutrition, physical therapy, and primary health care nursing, in addition to the post-baccalaureate dietetic internship program in nutrition.
