» press releaseThe Wedding Show: The Art of Wedding Photography BOSTON (Jan. 23, 2001) Three Boston area photographers, Darlene DeVita, Jennifer Edwards, and Corrine Schippert, will showcase their work of one of lifes greatest passages, the wedding, Feb. 5 to March 16 at the Simmons College Trustman Art Gallery, fourth floor Simmons Main Campus Building, 300 The Fenway. A Valentines Day reception for the Wedding Show will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 14. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Personal and public events, momentous and mundane have been continuously documented by both amateur and professional photographers. Portraits commemorating birthdays, marriages and in the 19th century death, have been among the most frequently photographed subjects. In the era that preceded photography, painters were commissioned by wealthy patrons to create marriage portraits. Following this tradition, wedding photographers are faced with the challenge of satisfying their clients desires and their own aesthetic goals. Working in what is usually an emotionally charged environment, these photographers participate in every aspect of the wedding: private moments of preparation, the ceremony, and the reception. Exhibit hours are from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The gallery is closed on Feb. 19 and from March 5-9. The gallery is wheelchair accessible.
