Russian Women: The Powerhouse Behind The Power"
NPR Roving Foreign Correspondent Speaks Nov. 8 at Simmons College

BOSTON (Oct. 31, 2001) — A well-known roving foreign correspondent for National Public Radio will speak on Russian women as "the powerhouse behind the power" Thursday, Nov. 8 at 4 p.m. in the Simmons College Library Browsing Room, 300 The Fenway, Boston. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Anne Garrels, who reports on a wide range of international issues with an emphasis on the former Soviet Union, will give the lecture "Russian Women: The Powerhouse Behind the Power." Garrels’ long years working in Russia and her knowledge of the language add to her expertise, which has been featured on such programs as Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and Weekend Edition.

The lecture is the first of a series of Warburg lectures entitled "Women and Globalization." The Warburg Lecture is named for Joan Warburg of Greenwich, CT, a 1945 Simmons graduate who established the Warburg Chair in International Relations with her husband, James P. Warburg
