Others in the Virtual World BOSTON (October 12, 2001) Distinguished author Deborah G. Johnson will address the possibility of harming others in the virtual world on Monday, October 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Simmons College, 3rd Floor Conference Center, 300 The Fenway, Boston. This lecture is free and open to the public. Johnson, professor of applied ethics, technology, culture, and communication at the University of Virginia, will deliver the lecture, "Virtual Violations." Author of "Computer Ethics," "Ethical Issues and Engineering," and "Computers, Ethics and Social Values," Johnson argues that individuals can harm others in the virtual world and will discuss the implications of those actions as well as explore ways to develop notions of responsibility. Johnson is the third speaker in the Simmons College Lowell Lecture Series, "Information, Interconnection, Intrusion: The Impact of Technology in Our Lives, " sponsored by the Simmons Philosophy Department.
