Communications Lecturer Dan Connell was quoted in a May 25 New York Times about the Djibouti/Eritrea border dispute, which was picked up by the June 1 issue of Scotsman.com, the online version of Scotland's daily newspaper. He also was interviewed on Voice of America radio May 29 in which he assessed the progress and setbacks Eritrea, which won its independence from Ethiopia in 1991.
History Professor Laura Prieto was quoted on May 11 Associated Press on the history of Mother's Day, which was picked up by hundreds of newspapers across the country.
Simmons School of Management Professor Teresa Nelson was quoted in the May issue of Entrepreneur magazine about the startup process for new businesses. She said that many entrepreneurs network and collaborate with other entrepreneurs with similar skills.
The physical therapy department's Hand to Hand program was featured in a May 12 Boston Globe story about its use of therapeutic touch with homeless patients at the Barbara McInnis House. Physical therapy students Lauren Shaeffer and Ana Nolasco were featured in the story.
A feature story on the Simmons School of Health Science's nutrition program for female inmates at the Suffolk County House of Corrections ran in the May 19 Boston Globe. The article, which describes how the program was the idea of Simmons School of Social Work alumna Laura Richardson of the class of 2004, quotes physical therapy students Abby Dunn, Danielle O'Neill, and Diane Aucoin. The story was picked up by the May 22 Houston Chronicle.
Simmons School of Management Professor Stacy Blake-Beard was quoted in a June 6 Wall Street Journal blog about "speed mentoring." Blake-Beard said that the 15-minute sessions, modeled after speed dating, should be called "speed networking," since real mentoring takes time.

Simmons School for Health Sciences Dean Gerry Koocher was quoted in an article on nePsy.com (the official website of New England Psychologist) about genetic testing for psychiatric disorders. Koocher said that issues of access, privacy and validity should be considered during genetic testing, and that not all depressions and anxieties have a genetic basis.
A May 24 Hartford Courant story on teens attending summer enrichment programs to get a "leg up" on acceptance to colleges as quoted Catherine Capolupo, director of undergraduate admission. She said that such programs may encourage students to take on a leadership role.
Elizabeth Scott, biology professor and co-director of the Simmons Center for Hygiene and Health in Home and Community, was quoted in a May 15 Philly.com article about bacteria and germs on household surfaces. Philly.com publishes articles online from the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News. Scott also was quoted in a Florida Times-Union online article June 11 on rinsing dishes after washing them.
Simmons School of Social Work alumna Carol Gomez was profiled in the June issue of NASW Focus, the monthly newsletter of the National Association of Social Workers Massachusetts Chapter.
Professor of English and Gender/Cultural Studies Renee Bergland was featured in the June 9 issue of Cape Cod Times about her book, Maria Mitchell and the Sexing of Science.
Simmons School of Social Work Professor Helen Reinherz, an undergraduate alumna of Wheaton College, was profiled in the 2008 summer issue of Wheaton Quarterly, Wheaton's alumni magazine. The article, which focused on Reinherz's Simmons Longitudinal Study, also quoted Social Work Professor Mary Gilfus.
