Weaver, an award-winning poet, grew up in Baltimore. Simmons School of Management Distinguished Scholar Joyce Fletcher was quoted in a March 30 Boston Sunday Globe article about the trend of women excelling and outperforming males when taking a new job. Fletcher said that portable skills such as external networking and a focus on customer relationships are enabling women to succeed in business. The article also ran in the International Herald Tribune, an English language international newspaper. The March 11 edition of Forbes.com ran an article on the Simmons School of Management Leadership Conference. The conference also was mentioned in the March issue of CIO magazine, in an article about women's leadership summits. Simmons Alumna Elinor Lipman published an op-ed in the March 24 Boston Globe titled "If I Ruled the Admissions Universe," about the college admissions process. Simmons School of Management Visiting Professor Margaret Heffernan was quoted in a March 23 Boston Sunday Globe about ex-couples who are in business together. Heffernan is the author of How She Does It: How Female Entrepreneurs are Changing the Rules for Business Success." Simmons School of Social Work instructor Tien Ung was quoted in a March 27 Boston Globe about the Massachusetts Department of Social Services' decision to hire more social workers. Ung is a former DSS social worker. English Professor David Gullette was mentioned in a March 19 Boston Globe review of the "The Tempest." Gullette, an actor in the Actors' Shakespeare Project's production, was cast as Alonso, a character the review described as having "aristocratic knavery." Simmons Alumna Ann Fudge was featured in the March edition of Unity First magazine about her recent award from Black Enterprise magazine for her work as a "corporate trailblazer." Unity First is a monthly magazine for African Americans in the New England Region. Trustman Art Gallery Director Barbara O'Brien was quoted in a March 25 Boston Phoenix arts events article that mentions the Trustman exhibit "Inside the Outsider World." The March 24 issue of the Massachusetts Daily Collegian mentioned Simmons's presence on the 2007 Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. The Collegian is the daily newspaper of the University of Massachusetts. |
