» Simmons In The NewsNovember 27, 2007Simmons School of Management Professor Deborah Kolb was featured on ABC's Good Morning America Nov. 10, in a segment about many women's hesitancy to negotiate for consumer goods. The segment followed Kolb as she gave a woman a crash course in bargaining with salespeople at various business settings including a furniture store and a flea market. Kolb also was featured in a Nov. 8 Harvard University Gazette article on how gender affects negotiation.Jill Avery, Simmons School of Management assistant professor, was interviewed in a Nov. 12 New York Times article about Procter & Gamble's "Protecting Futures" campaign in Africa. She said that the feminine hygiene campaign's target of young girls is a good strategy for ensuring future consumers. Simmons Graduate School of Library and Information Science Dean Michèle Cloonan published an op-ed about the rich cultural heritage of the Boston Public Library in the Nov. 18 Boston Sunday Globe. Simmons School of Social Work Professor Helen Reinherz and her Simmons Longitudinal Study were profiled in the "Meeting the Minds" column of the Boston Globe's Health/Science section. The article focused on Reinherz's combination of research savvy and empathy. The longitudinal study also was mentioned Nov. 7 in the Christian Science Monitor about the increased involvement of parents in their children's lives. The article said the study "makes a persuasive case for strong family involvement at every stage." Additionally, details of the "Family Matters" study were announced in the Oct. 20 issue of Obesity, Fitness and Wellness Week, Health & Medicine Week, and the December edition of Focus, National Association of Social Workers Massachusetts Chapter newsletter. The Simmons School of Management's flexible work arrangements study was mentioned in Latina magazine's November issue, in a career and money advice column. Health Care Administration Professor Alice Sapienza was quoted in the Nov. 9 edition of Science journal about management training for scientists. She spoke about her research, which found that scientists and engineers believe the best leaders are those with the best people skills. Simmons School of Management Professor Susan Sampson was interviewed Nov. 19 on WBZ-TV News' New England Business Report segment about retail sales this holiday season. She said chain stores are promoting specials earlier in light of high energy prices. Associate Professor of Nutrition Teresa Fung was quoted in publications including the Medical Post (Toronto, Canada) and in the Pak Tribune (Islamabad, Pakistan) about her research connecting healthy diet and low diabetes risk. Simmons Graduate School of Library and Information Science Lecturer Ann Cullen was quoted in a CIO.com article about tips for maximizing web search results. CIO magazine focuses on technology issues for chief information officers and other IT leaders. Deb Taft, Simmons's new associate vice president for advancement, was spotlighted in the Nov. 23 Boston Business Journal's "On the Move" column about her professional achievements and her fundraising priorities for the College. Alumna Christie Dufault '93, a sommelier at Quince restaurant in San Francisco, was profiled in the Nov. 15 issue of Wine Spectator. Alumna Nancy Clark, a sports nutritionist, was quoted in a "Careers in Healthy Living" story featured in the December issue of Next Step magazine. Next Step is a national teen publication covering college and career planning and life skills. Nutrition Instructor Karlyn Grimes wrote an article on "10 Tips for Holiday Eating" in the October issue of Dance Retailer News. Simmons School of Social Work Alumna Amy Ruell, who works at National Braille Press, was interviewed in a Nov. 22 Boston Globe article about the challenges of job hunting for blind applicants. |
