» Simmons In The NewsNovember 8, 2006School of Management Dean Deborah Merrill-Sands was quoted in the Sept. 25 Wall Street Journal about the rise of executive education classes geared toward women. She said that although women's executive education courses historically have focused on midlevel managers, more programs are targeting higher-level executives.Associate Professor of Women's Studies Jill Taylor is quoted in the Oct. issue of Family Circle magazine in a story titled "Too Sexy Too Soon." In the article, which discusses some pre-teens' need to appear older than they are, Taylor says that young girls are very self-critical. Michelle Vital, assistant director for student leadership and activities, was featured on the Oct. 1 broadcast of WCVB-TV's CityLine program to discuss Simmons and its ranking as a "top college" for African-American students in a recent Black Enterprise magazine survey. Vital discussed the academic and social opportunities for African American students at Simmons, as well as her own experience as a student (class of 2000). Judy Beal, associate dean of nursing, is quoted in the Sept. 11 issue of Nursing Spectrum in a story focusing on the nursing faculty shortage and the resulting clinical site shortage for students. Philosophy Professor Sue Stafford was quoted in an Oct. 24 Boston Globe article about the liberal activist group Moveon.org's pressure of Rep. Martin Meehan to give some of his campaign war chest to help Democrats in tight races. Communications Lecturer Dan Connell was quoted in the Sept. 23 Gloucester Daily Times in an article about war critic Noam Chomsky speaking at the Cape Ann Forum. Connell, chairman of the Cape Ann Forum, discussed the non-partisan organization's success in connecting a local community with global issues and in attracting well-known national and international speakers. The Trustman Gallery's recent "Mixing it Up" exhibition, featuring sculptural assemblages by Jessica Straus & Ellen Wetmore, was mentioned in an Oct. 6 Boston Globe article about husband and wife artists Wetmore and Jeff Warmouth. |
