President Susan Scrimshaw published an op-ed titled "Yes to Women's Colleges" in the Oct. 4 Boston Globe. The article also ran in UniversityBusiness.com, the online version for presidents and other senior officers at colleges and universities throughout the U.S. (click here to read the op-ed)

President Scrimshaw also was interviewed Oct. 13 about the benefits of a women's college on the women's nationally syndicated talk radio show "The Lisa Birnbach Show," a program of the new, women-owned Greenstone Media Network. On Oct. 12, she was interviewed about her new presidency in El Mundo, Boston's bilingual Hispanic weekly newspaper, as well as on WHDH-TV's Hispanic TV magazine show Revista Hispana, which aired Oct. 22.

School of Management Deloitte Ellen Gabriel Professor for Women & Leadership Deborah Kolb was featured on CNN Good Morning Oct. 6 to discuss the U.S. Rep. Mark Foley scandal and how businesses can prevent and manage harassment in the workplace.

School of Management Dean Deborah Merrill-Sands was interviewed in the September issue of Working Mother magazine about the country's top family-friendly companies. Merrill-Sands also was interviewed in a Sept. 20 Wall Street Journal article about women with children who seek MBAs. She talked about the School of Management's part-time MBA that enables mothers to attend class while children are in school or daycare.

Africana studies and Education Professor Theresa Perry was interviewed by Education Week, in an article about the dismal state of New Orleans public school teachers, many of whom were fired from their jobs and scattered across the country, post-Katrina. Perry, who is a member of an ad hoc group of national and local scholars helped organize support for the dismantled district.

Children's Literature Professor Anita Silvey, author of "500 Great Books for Teens," shared her suggestions of 20 books in an article in the Oct. 13 Sacrament Bee. Silvey said she chose books for teens that "10 years later, make their eyes light up and make them think of the parent or the teacher who gave it to them."

Zach Abuza, associate professor of International Relations, has become a terrorism expert for the Australian media. On Oct. 10, he was interviewed live on Australian Broadcasting Corporation's Lateline news analysis program, about reports of an Al Qaeda plot to gas the Australian and English cricket teams. On Oct. 9, he published an op-ed in The Australian about the rising threat posed by Al Qaeda affiliate Jemaah Islamiah. And on Sept. 23, he was interviewed in the Sydney Morning Herald about the Thai government's extreme stance in the fight against terrorism.

Africana Studies Professor Elizabeth Amelia Hadley was interviewed in a Sept. 14 Houston Chronicle article about the new season of television's Survivor series, which divides teams by race and ethnicity.

James Corcoran, chairman of the Department of Communications, was quoted in a Sept. 10 MetroWest Daily News article about books of fiction that explore the psychological and historical roots of terrorism. Corcoran is the author of two books on the American militia movement.
