Nutrition Professor Teresa Fung's DASH Diet continues to receive media attention, with coverage including Xinhua News Agency (the official press agency of the government of the People's Republic of China), Times of India, and Boston Globe's "White Coat Notes."School for Health Studies Dean Gerry Koocher was quoted in an April 9 USAToday article about a book for siblings of ill children. Koocher said that children have trouble expressing their own needs to their parents when an ill sibling is receiving all the attention. Wall Street Journal's Health Blog for April 14, regarding today's need for more geriatric training for health-care workers, referenced the Simmons School of Social Work students who do field work placements at Hebrew Rehabilitation Center. Announcements about human rights advocate Bianca Jagger serving as Simmons's Commencement speaker ran in Boston Business Journal and Conde Nast's Portfolio.com April 8, and in New England Journal of Higher Education April 17. An April 21 Boston Globe feature story titled "Technology puts more pupils in the mainstream" mentioned Simmons's Assistive Technology Graduate Program ("the only school in the region to offer such a program") and its assistive technology showcase at the Council for Exceptional Children convention, and quoted program director Madalaine Pugliese. The story also was picked up by Teacher Magazine's blog. Entertainer Gloria Estefan was featured in an April 27 Boston Globe Q&A discussing her participation as the keynote speaker in the upcoming School of Management Women's Leadership Conference. The conference also was featured in a May 2 Boston Herald article, where it was referenced as "the world's pre-eminent women's leadership conference." Career Education Center Director Andrea Wolf was quoted in a bostonchannel.com (WCVB-TV) news story April 30 about the economy's effects on job hunting for the Class of '08. Wolf said that Simmons has a large focus on health care, education, library science, and other fields, so its graduates aren't as affected by the market. Graduate School of Library and Information Science Professor Peter Hernon was featured in Computers in Libraries journal April 1 about his Association of College and Research Libraries "Librarian of the Year" award. The Baltimore Examiner and The Baltimore Sun's free newspaper, titled "b," publicized Alumnae Professor of English Afaa Michael Weaver's involvement in Baltimore's CityLit Festival. News about the Simmons School of Managements's adoption of the Principles for Responsible Management Education was featured on Yahoo!News April 30. Coverage of Simmons's Black Symposium, and keynote speaker Anita Hill's speech, appeared on New England Ethnic News April 14. The April 17 Bay State Banner ran a photo of alumnae Alicia Canady and Kelley Chunn, co-chairs of Simmons's Black Alumnae/i Symposium, at the event. Simmons's Girls Preparing to Succeed program, and student founder Julia Reynolds, were featured in an April 20 article in the Boston Sunday Globe. GPS is mentoring program for urban women students at the Rindge & Latin School and Fenway High School. Graduate Education Alumna Katherine Butler Jones was profiled in the spring 2008 issue of the Mount Holyoke Alumnae Quarterly about her experience as a teacher working to address racial imbalance in Boston area schools. Senior Natalie West was featured in an April 23 Brockton Enterprise article about her success on Simmons's softball and field hockey teams. An article about the Simmons School of Management's board survey appeared on the front news page of Women's College Coalition website in April. Simmons School of Management Assistant Professor Patricia Deyton's recognition by The Boston Club was mentioned in the March 20 Andover Townsman. She is a member of the club's NonProfit Board Resource Committee.
