Apply for a Job

Work study (both on and off campus) and general employment job opportunities are available on our careers site. On this site, you will see the option to apply for "Work Study" or "General" jobs. Work study jobs are available only to students that have received work study awards as part of their student financial aid package (see Student Financial Services for more information on work study awards). General employment jobs are on campus jobs available to any enrolled current student at Simmons College.

To apply for a particular job you are interested in, please be sure to read the application instructions fully and follow them closely. Most prospective employers will require a resume and an in-person interview.

Additional resources are available on the CEC's Career Toolkit such as networking, creating your resume, preparing for interviews, and much more.

If you are a new student employee, please apply for jobs using the External Careers Site.

  • Please Use this Job Aid for instructions on how to apply for a job if you are a new student.

If you are an active student employee looking for an additional job, please apply for jobs in Workday.

Starting Your New Job

Once you are offered employment, your employer will need to complete the hire via Workday, Simmons' HRIS system. Student employees who have not previously worked for Simmons will receive an email from Workday to login and complete part 1 of onboarding.

The onboarding process will include completion of Section 1 of the Form I-9 and scheduling an appointment with Benefits & Payroll to complete Section 2 in Workday.

  • In order to complete the Form I-9 online, you will need to bring one or two forms of identification to your appointment with Benefits & Payroll (E208). Please click here to schedule a New Hire Appointment. Only original, unexpired documents are accepted, photocopies are not permitted. The List of Acceptable Documents can be found here.
    • If you do not have the documents in your possession now, please make arrangements to have the original documents (photo copies are NOT acceptable) sent to you prior to your first day of work.
    • It is against federal law to begin employment without completing a Form I-9, which verifies your eligibility to work in the United States. Section 2 of the Form I-9 needs to be completed within 3 days of the employees first day of work.
  • Once the form I-9 is completed by a member from Benefits and Payroll in your new hire appointment, a few more action items will appear in your inbox to complete such as setting up direct deposit and choosing tax withholdings.

For information on how to use the Workday system, we recommend you visit our Workday Support Site. This site contains job aides and video tutorials on how to navigate the system.

You will also be required to enter your hours worked into Workday in order to get paid. For instructions on how to do so, please click here. Students are paid by the Benefits & Payroll Office on a bi-weekly basis. For the Student Payroll Schedule and deadlines, please click here.

Work Study Information

Work study is a type of need-based financial aid that is awarded to students to give them greater access and opportunity to jobs during their educational careers. Most, although not all, work study awards are for $2500.00. The work study year starts July 1st and runs until our Commencement the following year; usually around May 15th. Once the student has earned the $2500.00 gross amount, their award is done for the year.

Unlike other components in their awards, work study is not disbursed to the student's account. It is paid out to the student in the form of direct deposit which is received bi-weekly based on the hours they work and the rate they are paid, up to the maximum amount listed on their award letter.

Both on and off campus work study jobs are available only to students that have received work study awards as part of their student financial aid package (Please see Student Financial Services for more information on work study awards).
