Provost Katie Conboy
Katie Conboy is Provost and Senior Vice President of Simmons College
She brings more than 25 years of academic, administrative, and professional accomplishments to Simmons. Provost Conboy started her career as Assistant Professor of English at Stonehill College and emerged early as a faculty leader, serving twice as Moderator of the Faculty Assembly. Shortly after her promotion to full Professor, Provost Conboy was tapped as Acting Vice President and Dean at Stonehill, and she continued in the Chief Academic Officer role for 13 years, becoming Vice President for Academic Affairs in 2001 and Provost in 2008.
At Simmons, she serves on President Drinan's Operating Team, leads the academic council (composed of the Deans of Simmons's five schools), and has overall responsibility for Academic Affairs, including the Center for Academic Advising, the Library, Center for Excellence in Teaching, Registrar, Career Education Center, and Study Abroad.
Provost Conboy holds a B.A. in English from the University of Kansas and a Ph.D. in English literature from the University of Notre Dame. Her scholarship areas include British fiction, Irish literature, and feminist theory. (See Provost Conboy's curriculum vitae for more information.)
Provost Conboy is the co-editor of Writing on the Body: Female Embodiment and Feminist Theory (Columbia University Press). Her articles, essays, and book reviews have been published in ELH, Modern Language Studies, Verse, Twentieth Century Literature, MELUS: The Journal of Multi-ethnic Literature of the United States, and Poetry Ireland Review, among others. She regularly presents at the annual meetings of the American Conference of Academic Deans, the Council of Independent Colleges, and the American Association of Colleges and Universities on the liberal arts and liberal education; planning; faculty work; and other topics.
Provost Conboy serves on the boards of the American Conference of Academic Deans, Boston College High School in Boston, MA, and Trinity Catholic Academy in Brockton, MA. She is also a past member of the Advisory Board for the National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education and a past chair of the CAO Task Force for the Council of Independent Colleges.
