Our values, vision and mission mandate that we strive to create an environment that is free from bias, prejudice, discrimination and hurtful/hateful acts that can prevent each member from thriving in the Simmons community.
We implemented this Bias Response Protocol to inform, instruct and support those who have been
affected by bias. This includes offering resources and referrals as appropriate. Additionally, it is designed
to educate and raise awareness in our community about bias and hate incidents
that detract from our desired goal of an inclusive community, affirming of all members.
Freedom of expression is not limitless at Simmons or elsewhere. Like other intellectual communities, we are obligated to develop and deliver educational opportunities that raise awareness and facilitate the elimination of biased activity. Simmons seeks to balance open discourse that involves diverse perspectives with honoring our commitment to diversity and inclusion. These issues can be complicated and complex. It is our goal to have policies, practices and protocols that play a role in helping to cultivate an appreciation of diversity, active efforts of inclusion, an understanding of equity, civility, and respect – all that we value as a community.
