I have been a practicing psychiatric clinical nurse specialist for over 25 years and I currently practice one day per week in an emergency department providing psychiatric consultation. I began teaching part-time nearly 20 years ago and I have been a full-time professor at Simmons since 2004. I try to engage students in active learning and encourage dialogue with mutual sharing of cases.
I teach psychiatric-mental health nursing. I also teach scholarly inquiry in nursing.
I have varied research interests including educating the accelerated second degree nursing student. Recently I have begun a research project considering how to respond to at-risk college-aged students.I am also involved in public health projects in southern Nicaragua and I travel there regularly. I have published articles detailing my work there with Simmons students.
